TEQIP

National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) was established by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in August 1990 for coordination, facilitation, monitoring and to provide guidance to the States/ Institutions in all aspects of the projects. During 1991 to 2007, NPIU implemented three Technician Education Projects of Government of India assisted by World Bank, which helped to strengthen and upgrade the Technician Education System and benefited 552 polytechnics in 27 States including UTs of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of Government of India is being implemented as a World Bank assisted project to improve the quality of technical education system in the country. TEQIP is a long term programme of 10-12 years and is implemented in three phases.

TEQIP – Phase I

TEQIP Phase-I had the following Objectives:

  1.  Promotion of Academic Excellence;
  2.  Networking of Institutions for quality enhancement and resource sharing;
  3. Enhancing quality and reach of services to Community and Economy;
  4. System Management Capacity Improvement.

The Phase - I of TEQIP was implemented in 13 States and covered 127 Institutions including 18 Centrally Funded Institutions. It became effective in March 2003. The Government College of Technology, Coimbatore has been one of the institution selected for TEQIP Phase – I . The project activities  was started in the year 2003 and ended successfully in March 2008.

TEQIP – Phase II

Based on the performance in the first phase, this institute has been again selected for TEQIP Phase –II and has been sanctioned an amount to the tune of 4 crores so far, against the allotted amount of 14 crores.

The broad objectives of this college for TEQIP Phase- II are:

1.  Scalling up Post - Graduate education and demand driven Research and Development innovation.

2.  Establishing Centres of Excellence for focussed applicable research

3. Training of faculty for effective teaching

4. Enhancing Institutionl and System Mangement effectiveness

 

TEQIP – Phase III

Based on the performance in the first and second phase, this institute has been selected for TEQIP Phase –III. Various twinning activities and procurements under TEQIP -III are in progress. The primary focus is to support the mentee institutions in research, academic and administration.
