SUMMARY OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS:

TITLE           : FRAMEWORK FOR CONCURRENT TRANSACTION ANAGEMENT IN MOBILE WIRELESS ENVIRONMENT

ABSTRACT: Improved data processing capability and increased storage capacity of mobile devices and improvement in wireless communication technology has made transaction processing possible with the mobile devices. The thesis proposes a framework for concurrent transaction management in GPRS / UMTS based mobile data networks. The proposed framework ensures Predicted Life Period supported logical timestamp ordering based concurrency control and cache consistency preservation technique, Affiliated Transaction Count / Dependent Transaction List based cache replacement policy and log based recovery of failed transactions.

The proposed PLP based concurrency control and cache consistency management technique supports highly dynamic transaction execution which ensures ‘zero’ stale hit probability. The proposed cache replacement policy improves the cache hit ratio by at least 20% when compared to the existing techniques. The proposed log management strategy reduces the recovery cost by 60% and 20% when compared with that of lazy and pessimistic schemes respectively. The total cost incurred for the proposed scheme is reduced by at least 30% when compared to the pessimistic and lazy schemes irrespective of the mobility speed of the MH. The proposed framework for transaction execution ensures concurrent transaction execution with controlled concurrency, reduced transaction ‘restarts’, effective cache replacement and failure recovery with recovery guarantees.

Research Area:  Data Management

The pervasive computing paradigm has enabled the sophisticated users to store, retrieve and manipulate the data conveniently. Such versatility in data usage has necessitated the data management operations such as data summarization, integration, data transformation, privacy/ integrity preservation on voluminous data. Specifically the stored big data is analyzed and trends are predicted for making strategy decisions and providing business solutions. Research efforts are made for effective Machine Learning approaches for data analytics.

FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECT:

            An amount of Rs. 6,47,059  has been funded for the Project ‘Smart Transportation System’ under Research Promotion Scheme of AICTE for a period Sepember 2017 – March 2021.

PRIZES WON:

            Won Proficiency Prize in the 'Teachers Competition' on the theme "Vallet Parking" on 16.12.2014 conducted by e-Yantra Project coordinated by IIT, Bombay and sponsored by MHRD.
